As a new parent, it is only natural for you to feel worried about your baby being uncomfortable while lying down without a pillow. Stay assured that your little loved one’s quality of sleep and comfort is not affected by the need for cushioning his or her head. Instead, you must be aware of experts warning against the use of pillows at a young age.
The latter increases the risk of sudden infant death syndrome as your baby’s head risks being buried inside the pillow. Babies under two years old with under developed respiratory tract are particularly at risk. Even beyond that age, experts advise to avoid pillows as it may still infer with your little one’s ability to breath properly. If you wish to use a pillow above 2 years old, always opt for thinner and harder ones. Avoid soft pillows at all cost and especially one’s filled with bird or goose feathers. The latter may lead to allergies in your child.
