An allergic condition typically occurs when the body over-reacts to certain substances which it deems harmful. This natural bodily defence mechanism may over manifest to the point that it becomes self-harming. The latter condition is categorised as an allergic disease. Even breastfeed babies (which are usually protected from allergies) may be prone to this condition. This is related to some of us being genetically predisposed in the form of being less tolerant to certain allergens. Rapid industrialisation and urbanisation over the past years having led to increased air pollution which has further aggravated the genetic factor.
If you have allergies running in your family line, try introducing solid food intake as late as possible. Eggs, fish, fruits such as bananas, oranges, berries and nuts are most often the cause of food allergies at an early age. Food allergy most often manifests as redness, diarrhoea and recurrent respiratory tract infections. The latter disorders will improve over time. If you are breastfeeding and have an allergic history, stay assured that this will not affect your infant. As a further precaution, reduce dust in your house and moist in your baby’s room as much as possible.
